Heavy Rains Associated with Tropical Storm Isaac Affect Roads in Several Parishes

The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Isaac has affected roadways in the parishes of St. Catherine, Clarendon, St. Mary, Portland and St. Thomas, blocking or reducing these corridors to single lane access.

In St. Catherine the Bog Walk Gorge has again become impassable. The NWA is advising motorists to use the alternative routes through Barry or Sligoville. The Williamsfield to Glengoffe main road that was blocked in the vicinity of Mount Industry and the Zion Hill Bridge to Free Town main road that was blocked at Bamboo Corner are now reopened to single lane access. St. John’s Road in the vicinity of Johnson Pen and Old Friendship School is inundated. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

In Eastern Portland the main road in the vicinity of Blue Hole is blocked by a large tree. A team has been dispatched to the location and clearance of the roadway to single lane is expected late this afternoon. In St. Mary there are landslips along the Junction Road at Friendship Gap, Lunarfield Parish Council Road and Paisley School Road at the border of St. Mary and St. Andrew.

There are also landslips blocking the Windsor Forest to Mahogany main road and the Groves main road in vicinity of Cedar Valley, St. Thomas.

In Clarendon there is inundation along the Tollgate and Four Paths main roads. The NWA is also advising motorists that it has received unconfirmed reports that there are blockages and inundation along the Buff Bay Valley and Rio Grande Valley corridors.

The National Works Agency is advising motorists who use these roadways to proceed with care as the roads are slippery, obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
