The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced a major road patching exercise in the parish of St. Elizabeth, aimed at arresting some of the poor road conditions that exist in that parish.
Under the programme, 57 kilometers of roadway will be targeted with approximately 900 square meters of patching being done. The corridors benefitting under the programme are Tombstone to Gutters, Scotts Cove to Luana and Luana to Tombstone. These road sections form the main arterial network through St. Elizabeth.
Community Relations Officer of the South Region of NWA, Howard Hendriks says that the works form part of a seven million dollar programme, under the governments’ 200 million dollar island-wide road patching programme that was recently announced by Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller.
Mr. Hendriks says that the NWA is also undertaking bushing and drain cleaning activities along several corridors in St. Elizabeth. This programme which will be completed by December 16 is being done at a cost of 9 million dollars with funds from the Road Maintenance Fund (RMF) and the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF).
