The National Works Agency is now in the process of finalizing a programme of repairs on roads that have been affected by heavy rains over the last several weeks.

The programme which is valued at 200 million dollars will result in the patching of over 100 thousand square meters of roadways in 11 parishes.  The parishes of St. Catherine, Kingston and St. Andrew have not been included in this budget.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw says the patching programme comes against the background of severe damages that the island-wide road network has suffered.

He says the works will get underway within the next week and should last for seven weeks. Over 170 road sections in the targeted parishes will get attention.

Mr. Shaw explains that this new 200 million dollar programme complements that which was started in the parishes of St. Catherine, Kingston and St. Andrew, three weeks ago.

The NWA is currently spending some 80 million dollars to carry out patching and local rehabilitative works on several critical corridors in the three parishes. These include, Spanish Town Road, the Mandella Highway, Marcus Garvey Drive, Molynes Avenue and several others in the Portmore Municipality.
