The National Works Agency (NWA) will today be reopening the May Pen Bridge in Clarendon, following its closure in March for emergency repairs. The bridge has been closed to vehicular traffic since March 28 for repairs to failed steel members.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says while the repair work is not complete, vehicular traffic will be put back on the bridge at 2:00 pm today.

Mr. Shaw explains that the first phase of the repair work, which included hoisting the bridge to remove and replace the failed members, as well as to have it straightened, has been done. One of the two pedestrian walkways has also been repaired.

Work will continue on the second pedestrian walkway and the steel truss, which make up the superstructure.

Repair to the May Pen Bridge is being done through the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP) at a cost of over 30 million dollars.
