Residents of several communities across the western parishes of Westmoreland, Trelawny, Hanover and St. James are receiving a reprieve from some of the bad road conditions being faced. This, as a forty nine million dollar patching programme is now being undertaken by the National Works Agency (NWA) in the Western Region.

According to the Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, the programme targets fifty three roadways. This programme is aimed at rehabilitating the worst sections of these roadways.

Already, work has been successfully completed along several roadways in the region. Among the roadways where work has already been completed are sections of the Ferris to Mackfield and Bartlett’s River to Negril main roads in Westmoreland; the Martha Brae to Kinloss and Falmouth to Springvale corridors in Trelawny.

Ms. Ricketts says that work will now continue on sections of the Wakefield to Friendship main road in Trelawny; the Dunbars River to Torrington corridor in Westmoreland; the Kent Avenue (Dead End) roadway in St. James; and sections of the Riley – Bushmouth main road in Hanover.

Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signs and instructions of flag persons.
