The National Works Agency (NWA) is announcing that plans are in the pipeline to rehabilitate the main road from Gooden’s River to Glasgow in Westmoreland, which this week has been the source of demonstrations, relating to the poor state of the corridor.

The Gooden's River to Glasgow thoroughfare links the town of Savanna la Mar to the neighboring communities of Frome, Town Head, and Grange Hill. Additionally, the corridor is one of the main arterial links to the neighboring parish of Hanover.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says that the Agency is aware of the state of this roadway and is currently revising an earlier estimate which was made, as part of plans to have the corridor rehabilitated.

Ms. Ricketts says the revision of the estimate, for the works to be undertaken along the corridor, became necessary as recent rains have caused further damage to the roadway.

She explains that the completion of the estimate to carry-out works on the roadway is an important precursor to the government sourcing funds to execute the rehabilitative works along the corridor.
