NWA to begin Multi-million Dollar Rehabilitation of the Bayside Roundabout to Waterford Main Road in Portmore

The National Works Agency will be embarking on major rehabilitation works along the 2.6 kilometres length of roadway between the Bayside Roundabout and Waterford in Portmore, St. Catherine. The works on this project are scheduled to commence this March and are expected to be completed within three (3) months.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw says that these works include drain cleaning and construction, removal of soft spots, construction of shoulders, laying of kerbs, regulation and priming of the roadway, application of base and sub-base material.

Mr. Shaw says activities will also include milling of the road surface to remove old asphalt and paving with Asphaltic Concrete.

He says that during execution of the project, traffic will be diverted along the soft shoulders and there will be temporary changes to traffic movement along the Portmore Mall.

The contract is for an amount of $68 million and awarded to General Paving Company Limited.

Motorists who use this roadway should expect minor delays and are advised to obey the posted warning and directional signs as well as the instructions of flag persons.
