The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that construction of a new Modular Bridge to replace the structure that collapsed two years ago in the community of Dover Castle, St. Catherine, is to begin shortly.

Contractors have been invited to submit bids to undertake this project. Works are scheduled to commence as soon as the tender process is complete and a contract is awarded. Construction is expected to be completed within four months of the start date.

The old steel and concrete bridge which was constructed in the early 1960’s is being replaced because of the damage suffered which led to its collapse over two years ago during flood rains associated with Tropical Storm Nicole.

Works on this project include, construction of a detour road, demolition of the existing structure, construction of reinforced concrete abutments, construction and launch of a Modular Bridge, River Training Works and reconstruction of approach roads to the bridge.

This bridge construction project will be funded by the Government of Jamaica.
