Effective this Sunday, November 24, 2013 some motorists will be restricted when using the Mount Rosser main road in St. Catherine. The restrictions will be implemented by the NWA in order to facilitate the resurfacing of sections of the corridor.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that works to be undertaken forms part of a programme of works where select corridors are being micro-surfaced in order to improve the safety of road users.
Complaints have been made that sections of the Mount Rosser road had become worn, polished and slippery posing a danger to motorists.
Mr. Shaw says the nature of the work to be undertaken and the location of the area necessitates the Agency restricting all heavy vehicles to include trucks and trailers from using the road during the period when the works will be undertaken. The Micro Surfacing works will be done over seven days, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Mr. Shaw says operators of small vehicles will be allowed to use the corridor during the working hours, however this will be done in seven minute intervals from the direction of Mount Diablo and Ewarton alternately.
The scope of the works to be undertaken include the cleaning of the road surface, the application of 5,500M2 of Micro-surfacing material in two layers, remarking of lanes and the replacement of “cat eyes”.
The $8.5 million Mount Rosser project forms part of a programme of works by the NWA to address similar surface concerns. Works have already been completed along Braco main road in Trelawny, near Dunn’s River, St. Ann and the Linstead Bypass in St. Catherine.
