NWA / ODPEM to Carry out Geotechnical Studies along Gordon Town Road St. Andrew and Bog Walk Gorge St. Catherine

The National Works Agency (NWA) in collaboration with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and EmergencyManagement (ODPEM), Mines & Geology Division of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy & Mining (MSTEM) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is advising road users that Geotechnical investigative works will be carried out along sections of Gordon Town Road in St. Andrew and the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine between July 2 and 3, 2013.

The occurrence of rock falls and embankment failure are of major concern along both roadways. The investigation is to enable a proper assessment of this problem in order that the NWA can put in place the necessary protections.

On Tuesday, July 02, 2013, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. traffic will be restricted to single lane use in the vicinity of the Louise Bennett Primary School.

These works will be continued in the Bog Walk Gorge on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.in the vicinity of Primrock, approximately 1.8 kilometres north of the Flat Bridge. The roadway will be restricted to single lane use for motorists travelling in the direction of Spanish Town. Motorists travelling from the direction of Spanish Town towards Bog Walk or Ewarton will be diverted through Barry or Sligoville.

The traffic arrangements will revert to two-way use at 11:00 a.m. with single lane use of the roadway being observed in the vicinity of the work zone up to 3:00 p.m.

During the period of these investigative works the NWA is advising motorists and pedestrians to proceed with extreme caution and obey posted warning and directional signs as well as the instructions of flag persons.
