NWA, Rehabilitation of Roadways in New Port West - Port Bustamante Nears Completion

Six roadways and a storm water drainage structure in New Port West/Port Bustamante being rehabilitated by the National Works Agency under the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme is nearing completion.

The roadways are First and Second Streets, Sixth and Eight Avenues, the 6th and 7th Avenue link road and Ninth Avenue. Just over three kilometers of road at a cost of $312 million is being rehabilitated.

Work on these projects began in November 2010 and include excavation, laying of base and sub base, construction of concrete manholes, repairs to storm water drains and preparation for application of Macadam base and paving with Asphaltic Concrete.

Paving is scheduled to begin in July and completed within four weeks. Overall completion of this project is 70%. This includes base works which are complete and drainage construction works that are 80% complete.

The programme of works is one of several in Kingston and St. Andrew. These include Micro Surfacing works in the Havendale community, road rehabilitation along Orange Street, Port Royal Street, Water Lane in downtown Kingston and construction of retaining walls in Hardwar Gap, Redlight, Halls Delight and Jacks Hill Road in St. Andrew among several projects now underway.
