The NWA Restores Access to the Moreland Hill Roadway in Westmoreland

The National Works Agency (NWA) has restored full access to a section of the Moreland Hill roadway in Western Westmoreland. The affected section of the roadway falls along the Albany to Moreland Hill corridor.

This roadway was closed following the passage of Tropical Storm Nicole in 2010. The corridor was severely eroded resulting in an approximately five meter drop, forcing the public to use the alternative route through the nearby Delve Bridge Old Road.

Community Relations Officer at the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says that the project, which is now substantially complete, is being undertaken at a cost of approximately $33 million. The project involves the installation of a new box culvert, the construction of retaining walls, the filling and compacting of the affected section of the roadway with granular base material and asphalting of the area, using Asphaltic Concrete.

Ms. Ricketts says that the contractor is now finalizing the drainage component of the project. It is anticipated that the project will be completed by the end of October.

The project is being executed by local contractor Alcar Construction and Haulage Company Limited.
