The National Works Agency (NWA) has closed down the Johns Hall Project in St. James with immediate effect. Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Wong today ordered that the project by closed down, until safety concerns are addressed by the contractor.

The closing down of the project comes against the background of an accident last week Thursday at the project site that resulted in the death of a resident.

The Johns Hall Project is being implemented as part of the multi-billion dollar Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP) and is valued at over 400 million dollars

Mr. Wong has expressed his condolences to the family of the accident victim and has committed the NWA’s support in dealing with the loss

He says work on the project will not resume, until a comprehensive review of the safety features on the project is completed and steps taken to ensure that the likelihood of a repeat incident is eliminated.

Through the Johns Hall Project, the NWA is constructing two box culverts in order to facilitate the re-alignment of a section of the roadway from Fairfield to Point. The Worcester (Wooster) Bridge is also being replaced as part of the works.
