The National Works Agency (NWA) has dispatched work teams in Portland, St. Catherine and St. Ann to clear roadways blocked by fallen trees, boulders, silt and debris. These activities have been hampered by rainfall which is still affecting these areas.

In St. Catherine equipment and personnel were deployed along the Bog Walk Gorge to clear boulders that were blocking a section of the roadway between Kent Village and Bog Walk. The roadway is now clear. The Williamsfield to Glengoffe main road that was blocked in the vicinity of Mount Industry and the Zion Hill Bridge to Free Town main road that was blocked at Bamboo Corner remain open to single lane access. St. John’s Road in the vicinity of Johnson Pen and Old Friendship School which was inundated is now clear. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution as the surface is covered with silt and is slippery.

The Fair Prospect to Folly main road eastern Portland, in the vicinity of Blue Hole is still blocked by a large tree. A team is now at the location working to have this roadway cleared to at least single lane. There are scoured sections in the Bellview community in the Rio Grande Valley while there are several landslips between Balcarres and Wakesfield in the Buff Bay Valley. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution as driving along these roadways may prove challenging.

In St. Thomas, two blockages are located along the Windsor Forest to Mahogany main road, one at Grove and the other in the community of Windsor Forest. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution along these roadways.  Motorists will be unable to negotiate the Ford at Bethel Gap/White Ford as it is inundated and the roadway is severely scoured in that area. There are also landslips located along the Trinityville to Cedar Valley and Bath to Barrett’s Gap main roads.

Meanwhile a fallen tree which blocked a section of the road at an area called Bull Point along the White River to St. Ann’s Bay main road has been cleared.

In Clarendon the Four Paths and Tollgate main roads which were inundated are now clear. In St. Mary there are minor land slips along the Junction Road at Friendship Gap, Lunarfield Parish Council Road and Paisley School Road at the border of St. Mary and St. Andrew.

The National Works Agency is advising motorists who use these roadways to proceed with care as the roads are slippery, obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
