Within the next six months the National Works Agency (NWA) will make significant improvement in the drainage network in and around the Bay Farm Road area of Kingston. A project valued at nearly 150 million dollars is currently underway to facilitate the improvements.

Flood waters have for years affected Bay Farm Road, sections of Seaward Drive and residents of the Bay Farm Villa Housing Complex.

Under the project, which forms part of the multi-billion dollar Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP), major drainage structures are being put in at the intersection of Seaward Drive and Bay Farm Road, as well as at the intersection of Bay Farm Road and the entrance to the Bay Farm Villa Housing Complex. Approximately two (2) kilometers of new pavement will also be constructed, Kerb Walls installed and sidewalks improved.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the project will not only assist in mitigating the incidence of flooding, but also the overall safety of all road users. The improvement in the sidewalks and lane markings are being done specifically with this in mind.

The project is expected be completed by December and affected persons are being advised to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
