The National Works Agency (NWA) is announcing that effective today, Wednesday August 16, 2017; a section of the Nolan Hill to Border main road in St. Andrew will be completely closed to the public. This follows an earlier announcement, in June, which spoke to the roadway being closed to vehicular traffic. This closure will be in effect for one month and applies to not only motorists, but also pedestrians and cyclists.

The roadway has been closed to facilitate repairs to a breakaway in the Mt. Ogle district. These works are currently underway, with emphasis now being placed on the construction of retaining walls and drainage structures. Following which, the roadway will be reinstated and asphalted.

Acting Communication and Customer Services Manager at the NWA, Janel Ricketts, says that following the earlier announcement in June, the roadway has been further undermined due to earth movements, necessitating a complete closure of the affected section of the corridor.

Ms Ricketts says that during the period of closure commuters travelling from Stony Hill to Mount Ogle are being reminded that they should turn left at the Stony Hill Square onto the Stony Hill to Parks main road, continue to the Cavaliers District, then onto the St. Christopher Glengoffe road, also known as ‘Burn Shop Road’, which leads to Lawrence Tavern/Mount Ogle District.

Commuters traveling from the direction of St. Mary to Lawrence Tavern should take the first right turn after the Toms River Bridge, onto the Unity to Toms River main road; continue through Florence Hall, Belmont and Oberlin District into Lawrence Tavern.

The project is which is being executed through a $34.4 million dollar contract, is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2017.
