Road Closure Notice for Queens Drive, St. James

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that effective today, Wednesday, May 11, 2011 a section of the Queens Drive in Montego Bay St. James will be closed to vehicular traffic for nine hours each day. This closure will affect the section of roadway between the Leaders Avenue intersection and the intersection of Queens Drive and Gloucester Avenue. This closure will be in effect between the hours of 9:00 pm and 6:00 am, until May 13.

According to the NWA, the roadway is being closed to facilitate necessary road improvement works.

Motorists travelling towards downtown Montego Bay from the direction of the Sangster’s International Airport are being advised to use the alternate route through Sunset Boulevard and then on to Gloucester Avenue (popularly referred to as the ‘Bottom Road’). Motorists travelling from downtown Montego Bay towards the direction of the Sangster’s International Airport are advised to travel via Gloucester Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.

The roadway is being rehabilitated at a cost of approximately $141 million under the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme.

Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
