Road Marking Works to Render Fern Gully Temporarily Closed

The National Works Agency is advising motorists that road marking works will be implemented in the Fern Gully in St. Ann this weekend. To facilitate the project, the roadway will be closed on Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29, between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Community Relations Officer for the Northeastern Region, Ms. Natalee Bloomfield, says that the work, which was originally scheduled for June 21 to 22, was delayed due to technical challenges. The road marking represents the final stage of Road Rehabilitation and Drainage works that were conducted within the Fern Gully between 2011 and 2013.

While the closure is in effect motorists travelling towards Ocho Rios from Kingston are asked to use alternative routes as follows: trucks and buses should travel from Moneague to Greenwich Park via Golden Grove and Davis Town, while smaller vehicles can travel from Colegate via Breadnut Hill Road to Harrison Town. The opposite obtains when travelling from Ocho Rios towards Kingston.

Over 600 million dollars have been spent by the government in executing works in the Fern Gully area over the last four years.
