The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced a $33 million patching programme in Western Jamaica, though which several road sections in the parishes of Trelawny, St. James, Hanover and Westmoreland will be targeted for improvement work.

Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says the agency is targeting over 64,000 square meters (m2) of roadway for patching. She says that among the areas to be targeted are the Sandy Bay to Montpellier main road in Hanover, the roadway from Fairfield to Point in St. James, the stretch from Martha Brae to Kinloss in Trelawny and the Withorn to Darliston roadway in Westmoreland.

Ms. Ricketts says the works which are slated to be completed within the next eight weeks, form part of the NWA’s thrust to improve the condition of the islands’ main road network. The work is being undertaken by contractors and the NWA’s Force Account Teams, under the Agency’s Special Flood Damage Programme.

Motorists and residents, who use these roadways, will experience smoother driving conditions when the project is complete.
