Road Rehabilitation of Jacob Hut to Milk River in Clarendon

The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced major rehabilitative work on the main road from Milk River to Jacob’s Hut in Clarendon. The 21 kilometer stretch of roadway is being rehabilitated at a cost of 305 million dollars, through the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP).

Community Relations Officer of the NWAs Central Region Howard Hendriks says that the scope of work includes major drainage improvement work, through the construction of U drains and V drains; construction of retaining walls and resurfacing with Asphaltic Concrete and Double Surface Dressing.

The project which got underway recently is expected to be completed within one year and will bring relief to residents of communities such as York Town, Parnassus, Race Course, Milk River, Rest and Preddie.

In the meantime, the NWA has completed seven of its projects being undertaken through the JDIP in Clarendon. The corridors that have already been completed are the Gravel Hill to Ritches, New Ground, Pleasant Hill, Portland Cottage, North Street and the Cedars to Stewarton parochial roads. Work has also been completed on the main road from White Shop to Dykes Hill. These works have been completed at a cost of over 240 million dollars.
