The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting a new spate of theft of traffic regulatory and informational signs in the Corporate Area. In the past few weeks, checks by the NWA have revealed that several Stop, Give Way and Round-a-bout signs have been removed from locations in the Richmond Park and Eastwood Park Gardens communities in St. Andrew, as well as the Port Henderson Road and the Hellshire communities in St. Catherine.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the theft of signs is an issue that the Agency has been dealing with for several years. He says that signs are important to all persons using the island’s roadways, and when they are stolen it compromises the safety of road users.

Mr. Shaw says that in the past signs have been reported stolen from sections of St. Catherine, as well as sections of Kingston and St. Andrew. He is appealing to the perpetrators of this activity to stop the practice.

The National Works Agency is, further, encouraging the public to continue their vigilance and report to the police, individuals who are observed engaging in these practices.

The NWA pays between 25 thousand dollars and 35 thousand dollars for one set of signs, including the installation of the pole.
