Temporary Closure of the Western Bridge, Spanning the Sandy Gully in the vicinity of Market Place

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that the Western Bridge spanning the Sandy Gully in the vicinity of Market Place, St. Andrew will be closed for a period of two (2) weeks in order to undergo emergency repairs.

The bridge will be closed on Sunday, May 19, 2013 and is expected to be reopened to traffic by Sunday, June 02, 2013.

During the period of closure traffic will be accommodated in a reversible flow across the eastern bridge. The flow will be as follows:

  • Between 5:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. the carriage way will accommodate two lanes of traffic in a southerly direction, and single lane in a northerly (towards Manor Park) direction.
  • Between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. the carriage way will accommodate two lane traffic in a northerly direction and single lane in a southerly direction.

Resulting from these changes, the NWA is advising persons to add an additional hour to their travel times in order to compensate for any delays experienced.

The NWA is also advising motorists and pedestrians to proceed with caution along this section of the corridor during the period of closure and obey all posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
