Traffic delays likely along Harbour View Corridor

Starting Monday, May 2, motorists using the Harbour View Round-a-bout in St. Andrew will face restrictions in movement. The road around the Round-a-bout will be reduced to single lane, as the US$8.9-million bridge and road improvement works in the area are ramped up.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw says that traffic will be diverted onto a temporary road on the outer section of the Round-a-bout in order to rehabilitate the carriage way that is now in use. This phase of the works is expected to be completed within a month.

The section 1.4 kilometer stretch of road from the Harbour View Round-a-bout to the St. Benedicts Catholic Church is being upgraded from two to four lanes. A four lane bridge is also under construction as part of the project that is being financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Mr. Shaw says that the project is over 50 per cent complete, with 24 of the 30 steel Girders already in place. Work has also started for the deck to be put in place. Traffic has also been put on two of the four lanes that will be available to motorists on completion of the project. A major overhaul of the drainage network within the project area is also being done and will be completed in a few weeks.

In the meantime, Mr. Shaw is advising persons using the Harbour View Round-a-bout over the next four weeks to expect delays and observe the instructions of flag-persons and posted warning signs.
