Two more signalised intersections for Spanish Town

Two more intersections in the St. Catherine capital of Spanish Town are to be controlled electronically. The National Works Agency (NWA) will on Thursday, May 4 commission into service traffic lights at the intersections of the Spanish Town Bypass/Brunswick Avenue and the Spanish Town Bypass/Job Lane. Manager, Comunication and Customer Services, Stephen Shaw says that with the switching on of the traffic lights at 9:30 tomorrow morning, movement through both intersections will be guided by the signals. The commissioning of the lights will bring to six the number of signalised intersections along the Spanish Town Bypass, which Mr. Shaw says should should be further bolster the safety of road users. Traffic signals now operate at the intersections with Windsor Road, March Pen Road, Salt Pond Road and Port Henderson roadways.. As part of its overall traffic managment plan, the NWA intends to signalise a number of intersections across the country. The systems will be connected to the Agency’s Traffic Management Centre from where movement along the corridors can be managed in real time. Just over 14 million dollars have been spent by the NWA to install the two new traffic signals in Spanish Town.
