Widening works begin on the Bogue main road in Montego Bay, St. James

The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced work to widen the Bogue main road in St. James.

The roadway which is a major entrance point to the city of Montego Bay has been the source of traffic delay, during morning and evening peak hours. This as the corridor is unable to accommodate the number of vehicles using the stretch, especially within the hours of 7:00am and 9:00am and again from 4:00pm to 7:00pm weekdays, when traffic is at its peak.

Government has announced plans to widen the corridor to accommodate four lanes of traffic. The planned project has been put to tender by the National Works Agency and should come on stream next year.

In the meantime, the NWA through its Force Account team is carrying out temporary works to ease the traffic snarls along the corridor. The agency today commenced the works to create an additional lane, which will be used to facilitate a reversible two lane flow.

The project which is expected to be completed by the end of the month will see two lanes of traffic flowing Eastward in the mornings, with the situation being reversed in the afternoons.

Motorists are being advised to proceed with caution, obey the flag persons and posted warning signs.
