| Upheaval | A localized displacement of the pavement due to the swelling of the sub-grade or other layer of the pavement structure. |
| Upstream | The direction from which the water in the river is coming from. |
| Utility Cut Depressions | Found in a pavement where a cut has been made for installation or repair of utilities, usually caused by lack of compaction during back-filling. |
